Garden maintenance
The importance of skilled garden maintenance
Where many designers focus only on the initial design, for us, an important part of the design of a garden is actually an ongoing process, that takes place in the maintenance.
How we work
Every garden requires maintenance. Even the most elaborate design can be ruined if not properly cared for. But maintaining a garden involves more than just trimming hedges or mowing the lawn. Plants need consistent and proper care: trimming, watering, nutrients, and treatment when they fall ill. Pruning must be done at the right time and in the correct manner. Each action demands a skilled eye and proper plant knowledge.
We work with high-level maintenance teams that take care of everything needed to ensure the garden looks amazing throughout the year and develops well in the years to come.
Besides that, a garden grows and changes continuously, requiring ongoing aesthetic decisions, some of which can be quite bold. While these decisions are often left to the maintenance team, they generally fall outside their expertise. This might include decisions such as whether to remove healthy plants that have become too dominant, replace shrubs that have grown bare at the base, or embrace the transformation by pruning cleverly to reveal their characteristic shapes. Or perhaps replacing a sun-loving border that has been overshadowed by a newly thriving shade garden.
What you get
- Guiding maintenance
- Advising on design interventions
- Ensuring high quality regular maintenance
- Consulting on plant health issues.
For that reason, we work with keen gardeners who have a good understanding of plants. Diederik, as a designer and horticulturist, directs the teams on the more complex aesthetic aspects and delicate horticultural decisions necessary to ensure that the garden continues to thrive and evolve into a beautiful, healthy outdoor space.
