Amsterdam – Anrooijbuurt
Neighbourhood planting initiative. An initiative by local residents to take over the maintenance of seven lots of public planting space with a total of 350 m2 , and to maintain that with a group of volunteers.
I designed the borders and set up a maintenance plan. My challenge was to work with the issues we faced: bad soil, lots of rabbits, people walking and driving through the plantings and duping waste (oil, gas, paint, frying pan oil, catlitter) on the planting. On another level the number of volunteers that helped out on a regular basis varied largely. In order to keep it manageble I used large groups of super easy plants, drought tolerant, with easily distinguishable features for simple identification when weeding.
